00 Desert Elite Girls Red/Black Stars & Stripes Champs
(April)  The 00 Red and Black together win the U12 Division Championship winning 3 games and tying 1 with 5 goals for and 1 against. Playing in their first tournament together, the girls dominated play and kept the ball from the other team with great possession, movement off the ball which creates numerous scoring opportunities.  In the final vs the Hammers, the team dominated play from the opening whistle to the end of the game. With 2 great goals and a very stubborn defense it was a joy to watch.  Congrats .

99 Desert Elite Girls Black win Yavapai Cup
(April) The 99 Girls Black won the Javapai Cup with some exciting soccer. After a long layoff with no competitive games for 5 weeks the girls played awesome soccer. They won 3 games and tied 1 with 9 goals for and 4 against. The games were played in hard wind storms but the girls battled and hung together and it was fabulous to watch. In the final game vs San Tan, the girls took control from the start with 3 quick goals -1 from the run of play and 2 from set pieces. But in the second half the girls held on tight together and absorbed the pressure as San Tan scored 2 times making it a close one. The final score 3-2 and a well deserved championship. Congrats.

98 Desert Elite Girls Black take home first place in the Yavapai Cup
(April) Wow! what a way to end a great season.  The 98 Desert Elite Girls Black team took home the first place medal at the Yavapai Cup.  The girls started off the weekend with a 1-0 win over CDO Fury in a tight windy game.  It was a fierce battle between both teams as we had to battle the high winds and dust.  We were able to put our goal away in the first half and had to hold them in the second half against the wind.  The defense stepped it up denying CDO everything they had at us.  Late in the second half we gave away a PK but, Sara Carrington stepped up and made a fantastic save to secure us the victory.  Our second game was against the Blackhawks.  This was by far the best game of the year.  We came out firing, scoring 3 goals in the first half and was able to hold onto the win 3-1.  More

98 Desert Elite Boys Red Arizona State President's Cup Champions
(March) After an undefeated Maricopa League Division I Season 2, Desert Elite 98 Red Boys were ready for more winning. They did it this weekend when they brought home the President’s Cup silver bracket championship. Though down several players, they were able, with one loaner, to field a team that won their first game in Tucson on Saturday, taking it 7-2.  The team returned home on Sunday to take on CCV Stars 98 White with one less player than the day before. Though the end of the first half was 0-0, the red kicked it in gear the second half finishing the game 2-0. Guess all the  OAP with coach Jeff worked as the 98 boys did not run out of energy.  The second game of the day saw the 98 Boys down one more player and the game started well with a score of 1-0 until a PK gave the other team a chance to tie it.  The 98 boys got the game back with a score of 2-1 until a score at the very end caused the game to end in a 2-2 tie.  More

99 Desert Elite Girls Red Arizona State President's Cup Champions
(March) The Desert Elite 99 Girls ended their season on a euphoric high with the triumphant capture of the Arizona State Presidents Cup.  With a depleted squad due to injuy (both Carly and Lauren were kicking every ball from the sidelines) the girls overcame adversity and shut out their opponents in all their games, scoring 5 goals along the way.  After a nail biting but deserved penalty shoot out win in the semi final, the girls came out full of energy in the final. From the first whistle it was clear that the girls were willing to go the extra yard to bring the championship home to Cave Creek and despite dominance, especially in the midfield, and many chances in the first half, it was a stalemate at half time.  The deadlock was broken almost immediately in the second half as Peyton latched onto a cross field pass and as the keeper came out she calmly finished with a left foot shot into the bottom corner.  There was more pressure from Elite but the second goal was elusive and there was always the chance that Ahwatukee could get back into it but the back four held strong and broke up every attack that came at them.  With 10 minutes to go a well worked move from Elite and some great work from Nicole on the right gave Emma time and space in the middle to round the keeper and smash the ball into the net as though she never wanted to see it again.  Ahwatukee then threw caution to the wind and put Elite under lots of pressure but when they finally got past the stalwart defence, Mikayla was on hand to turn any shot away and Elite held onto the shut out to claim the Cup.  Fantastic achievement girls, each and every one of you!!!!!

95/96 Desert Elite Girls Black Champions at Ostrich Festival Tournament
(March) With just 12 players and two sets of back-to-back games, the 95/96G Elite Black pulled off a remarkable first place win in the U16G Division of the Ostrich Festival.  After outplaying their opponents in the first 3 games but with only two ties and a loss to show for it, they  made it to the final on goal difference to face the 95G San Tan Legacy Red who had just beaten them 2-1 in a grueling game. The final was an incredible display of Desert Elite soccer at its best with San Tan completely at a loss as to how to stop the passing and free flowing game of the Elite girls that resulted in a 5-0 win and gold medals that these girls will not forget!

P.S. A tip for other Elite coaches : The Paradise Bakery lunch just before the final made a huge difference!

01 Elite Boys take Hammers Cup
(October 2010) Sometimes it takes a little adversity to bring everybody together.  After a tough loss to Sereno in the opening game of the Hammers Cup, the '01 Boys rallied together under head coach Chris Sagar to defeat Academicos and the hosting Hammers and force a rematch in the championship game.  The Elite squad came out of the gate strong, but an early lead evaporated in the afternoon heat. The boys were facing a tied match and a fired up Sereno team with less than two minutes to play, and demonstrated great poise and confidence under pressure.  With the tournament on the line, the team stood firm defensively, and were able to close out the game with a late clutch goal. "Friday's game was good for the boys", said Coach Sagar. Yes, a little adversity can go a long way.  Congratulations to the '01 Boys on an exciting Hammers Cup win!

96 Elite Red Girls win Arizona Inaugural Cup
(September 2010)  The 96 girls red team started out their season with great success by taking 1st place in the Arizona Inaugural Cup.  After adding several new players this season they proved just how cohesive they've already become!  We're looking forward to watching their progress! The possibilities are limitless!  Way to go, girls!!!!

Charity 3v3 tournament for Abby
(August 2010) Desert Elite participated en masse in a charity 3v3 tournament on Sunday to raise funds for Abby Guerra, a college soccer player from Phoenix who was involved in a severe car accident mid-July.  Desert Elite’s own Michelle DiMeola had the fortune of coaching Abby Guerra at Ironwood High School and felt the club needed to help.

Once again Desert Elite showed exemplary team spirit, strong solidarity with the community, and characteristic club unity with a number of teams involved.  Desert Elite was by far the most represented of all youth soccer clubs across the valley, with a number of teams involved in the tournament including a coaches team who made the finals, and a 93 girls team who won their bracket outright. It was a great day which helped raise money for a worthy cause, and all at Desert Elite were thrilled to be a part of it.

If you wish to help Abby, please check out the website www.abbysfightforlife.com.
